Habits Of MindIn Arthur L. Costa and Bena Kallick’s “Describing 16 Habits Of Mind” they describe how students’ behave when confronted with a problem. They are exploring the initial types of behaviors and “strategic reasoning”. They discuss how when faced with a problem whether it be with a person, place, or thing our mind start to develop emotional or behavioral patterns to the situation that is not immediately known “our intellectual behavior”. This process is called "Habits’ Of Mind". As I am presented with a problem I tend to gather information, try to come up with possible solutions and oversee possible consequences. I believe my Habit Of Mind for perceiving and proceeding with solutions to problems is by Listening to Others – With Understanding and Empathy. Whenever I am confronted with conflicting situations I like asking others for guidance, as they speak I listen for their personal opinions and figure out different ways to view the situation. I keep a respectful and open mind about their ideas, observe their body language and look for more depth through tones of voice or emotional stability to decided what’s t the best plan in resolving matters. For example whenever I am faced with something I don’t have proper knowledge of I tend to get really quite and just listen for cues and try to remember what was said before, pick out the main points, observe others behavior, make a plan of action to go about the situation, review possible outcomes and then attack the problem in hope for a better resolved situation. In conclusion Habits Of Mind is a good source in figuring out in which way you learn best. It also points out other ways of learning you can adapt to your learning process.
